Superbox #56 Yogurt Cosmetics Memebox Review & Unboxing

Let’s cut to the chase: yes, it’s another food-themed Memebox. I know, I have a problem!

But yogurt in cosmetics is really not unusual or new, it’s generally associated with being soothing and hydrating – which makes it a prime ingredient for winter skincare products. Many people, myself included, suffer from dryness and irritation due to winter weather, so I was able to justify buying the Superbox #56 Yogurt Cosmetics pretty easily.

first look

Here’s the official summary of this Memebox:

Yogurt is a yummy and wholesome snack, but when applied topically, you’ll see that this creamy wonder food  also has a multitude of beauty benefits!

Yogurt used as part of a beauty regimen dates back to ancient Egypt, when Cleopatra used it as a part of her daily beauty routine to maintain her youth. It contains lactic acid to dissolve dead skin cells that accumulate into the pores! Also, proteins, calcium, and vitamins prevent premature aging, brighten skin, and give the skin a naturally youthful glow!

Unlock this ancient beauty secret for your best self ever!

Whoever writes the sales copy for Memeboxes is damn good at their job, because I always end up thinking “well, that sounds like something that could definitely benefit my skin!” after almost every new box gets released. I mean, who doesn’t want youthful, glowing skin, right?

all out

So, just at a glance, we’ve got three different types of face mask, a cleanser, a moisturizer, and a lip balm set. I’m always happiest when my boxes are more skincare oriented – unless of course it’s a specifically makeup/haircare/whatever-themed box – so I’m pleased with this lineup.

Let’s get down to the unboxing – click the read more to see the individual products and my thoughts on each!

modeling pack

ettang Modeling Take-Out Cup Pack Yogurt (Full Size)

A modeling pack refers to a rubber-like pack widely used in aesthetic clinics for soothing, moisturizing, and firming up the skin. This Take-Out Cup Pack comes in a cute little cup with just the right amount for a single use so all you need to do is pour in some water to mix it up with, and voila!

How to use: Take out the spatula from within the pack and pour half the cup with water. Mix it well and spread it quickly and evenly over your face. after 15-20 minutes, slowsly peel off the pack and continue with your daily skincare routine.

Full size product: 17g (one use cup) for $3

Okay, I’ve definitely never used a rubbery facial pack before – but I’ve heard of this kind of product! I’m definitely interested in seeing how this lives up to its promised effects, and I’m glad that the prep is easy enough… lately there have been some seriously fussy products included in my various sub boxes, which my lazy streak hasn’t been totally thrilled about. But this one is already pre-measured and only needs water, so I can’t really complain!

holika holika iwantchu

Holika Holika I Want Chu Lip Balm Set in 01 Strawberry Smoothie (Full Size)

This super cute and unique lip balm set comes in two separate products – one in strawberry and one in yogurt – which, when come in contact, make a chemical reaction with each other and transforms into a strawberry smoothie-like scent. Yes, this is an item to be used before a kiss time with your lover 😉

How to use: Apply one of the lip balm and have your boyfriend apply the other. And voila! Experience the ultimate chemical romance in strawberry smoothie flavor!

Full size product: 3.7g x 2 (2 lip balm set) for $11

Okay, I was super psyched to see this product when it was first released as one of the box’s spoilers, because A) I love Holika Holika and B) I love lip balm. I’ve actually had this exact set – even the same flavor – on my eBay watch list for months. It’s always nice to get a product that you’ve been actively wanting in a sub box, so this has me pretty pleased.

balms close up

Obviously, I’ve already opened and tried these balms out! The “Yogurt” flavor actually smells like a true white chocolate – specifically, the white chocolate baking squares that you can buy and melt down for making candy and dipped fruit and the like. This balm smells EXACTLY like that. Which makes me happy, because I love white chocolate, but I’d pretty much given up on finding a true white choco flavored cosmetic – for some reason most companies go with this weird fake chocolate and too-sweet vanilla thing, which kiiind of makes sense, but white chocolate it is not.

The Strawberry flavor is very candy-sweet strawberry, reminiscent of strawberry milk taffy.

As for the flavor-mixing gimmick, well, I tried simply mixing them together and didn’t feel any incredible chemical reaction!! type of thing, but obviously the flavors did mix. Cute idea, though!

pure smile masks

Pure Smile Yogurt Mask Mixed Fruits (Full Size x2)

Made from a blend of yogurt and mixed fruits – banana, kiwi, and pineapple extracts – this Yogurt Mask delivers rich moisture and nourishment deep down into the skin and helps maintain healthy skin condition by preventing its dehydration.

How to use: After toner application, place the mask sheet evenly over your face and rest for 15-20 minutes. Remove and pat in the remaining essence.

Full size product: 2 sheets for $5

Yay, sheet masks! Something about the idea of a banana yogurt mask just seems so hydrating and nourishing, doesn’t it? Actually, the ingredients list on this mask just kinda makes me want to go get a fruit smoothie…

mask closeup

Here’s a close-up of the instructions and ingredients for those of you who can read it!

I don’t have too much to say about this product, other than I always dig sheet masks (duh) and I’m glad that they included two just in case I love it way too much to only use it once!

rappol calming cream

Rappol Calming Cream (Full Size)

The founders of Rappol started off their brand because they hoped to make a super gentle and effective product line for their own baby who was suffering from highly allergic, sensitive skin. Enriched with lactic acids and various other moisturizing complex, the Rappol Calming Cream works to strengthen the skin’s level of immunity and self-regenerating ability while offering a concentrated care and treatment of allergy-prone skin.

How to use: Apply an adequate amount of the cream evenly over your face and pat it in for full absorbance.

Full size product: 150g for $59

Okay, first of all, the packaging is really cute! I love the minty logo color and the angel wing design. Additionally, I do have relatively sensitive skin, so I’m always interested in finding good skincare products to help my skin recover from inflammation, or prevent it all together!

rappol close up

“Restoring the skin barrier” is kind of a big promise, but it’s something that my skin desperately needs – while my skin has gotten a lot better in the past few months, I feel like I’m still not entirely recovered from the absolute murder that The Body Shop’s Tea Tree line inflicted onto my skin a little over a year ago. It’s been steadily getting better as I explore new ingredients, learn more about pH, and experiment with the correct frequency for my retinol and acid use, but it’s still definitely in an overall sensitized state, I think.

If you have no clue what I’m on about RE: barrier repair, here you go.

I can’t find the ingredients list, unfortunately, I’m interested to know what the formulation is like since it’s supposed to be so gentle. If anyone knows, please tell me!

facial yogurt foam

Happy Bath Facial Yogurt Cleansing Foam (Full Size)

Enriched with yogurt and various herbal essences, Happy Bath’s Facial Yogurt Cleansing Foam comes in 4 types, each catered to different skin concerns. The Gentle type contains grain powders and is extremely gentle and soft on skin. The Moist type contains apple, banana and apricot seed essences rich in vitamin C, vitamin A, and many other nutrients for moisturizing and replenishing dry skin. The Silky type contains lavender, marshmallow root, and lemon extracts and works to deeply clean all excess facial oil and skin impurities for a nice and silky finish. Finally, the Firm type is made from 3 different berries – blueberry, raspberry, and cranberry – and helps increase skin elasticity and smoothen out uneven skin tone and texture.

How to use: Lather the cleansing foam with your hands and gently massage into your face. Rinse off with warm water.

Full size product: 120ml for $6

Each Memebox contained a random variety from amongst the four types detailed in the description. I think that I received Silky, just because that’s the only one that mentions lemon. Additionally, if I match up the listed order to the way they’ve got them laid out in the info card’s photo, that would give me Silky as well.

EDIT: After managing to find an eBay seller that actually stocked this product, it seems that the yellow is actually MOIST type. It’s very confusing, as the bottle says “lemon, orange, lime” and that has nothing to do with the way Moist is described on the Memebox card, while Silky has lemon in the description and is meant for oily skin (lemon/lime/orange are most often used in oily/troubled skin formulations, in my experience). So either Memebox’s blurb writers chose to emphasize different ingredients than the product packaging AND photographed them on the card out of order, or the eBayer is using the wrong picture. For now, I’m going to trust the eBayer, as Memebox has had confusing/misleading/mismatched product copy before.

Since foaming cleansers like this, particular ones marketed for oily skin, are so often outside of my ideal pH range, I decided to pH test this cleanser before actually trying it out:

You can click the thumbnail to zoom in for a better look. Since I tend to second-guess myself a lot when reading pH (I particularly have a hard time differentiating between 5-7 on the four-color strip – the blue/green square is, for whatever reason, really difficult for me to easily discern), I asked some people over at /r/AsianBeauty to give their input. The general consensus was that this cleanser reads around 8.5-9, which is too high for my tastes. I’ve noticed a distinct benefit after switching down to cleansers in the 5.5-6 pH range, so I don’t think that I’ll be testing this out myself. Since I only opened it to pH test, I may include it in a future giveaway or blog sale, though, for those of you who don’t find cleanser pH to be a big deal.

yogurt mask

Purederm Skin Softening Yogurt Mask Strawberry (Full Size)

Packed with strawberry and yogurt extracts, this wash-off, cream-type pack delivers rich nutrition and deep hydration to dry, coarse, and tired skin and works to cleanse aay all excess dead skin cells and impurities piled up in the pores for a refreshing and softening effect after use.

How to use: After toner application, evenly spread out the mask pack over your face. Rest for 15-20 minutes and rinse off with warm water.

Full size product: 150ml for $12

Last up is another mask! I was definitely expecting a product like this in this box, so I’m happy that I wasn’t disappointed. Yummy yogurt-based masks for everyone! This one does indeed smell totally edible: it’s straight up delicious true-strawberry and yogurt scent. I haven’t yet tried this out, as I’m currently introducing the infamous SU:M37 Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick and the Tosowoong Timeshift Emulsion from this Memebox into my routine and that’s already more than I usually test at once!

back of yogurt mask

Here’s the ingredients list and instructions – I love when brands include multiple languages on their packaging! Makes it so much easier to anticipate how a product will work out and, if it does or doesn’t, it helps me figure out why that might be the case.

I’ve uploaded the ingredients to CosDNA here, and I’ll just copy/paste them here for anyone who needs it in text format:

Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Trehalose, Glyceryl Stearate, Dimethicone, Cyclomethicone, Mineral Oil, Stearic Acid, Milk, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Carbomer, Tocopheryl Acetate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Sorbitan Stearate, Glyceryl Stearate/PEG-100 Stearate, Polysorbate-60, Phyto Collage, Fragaria Chiloensis (Strawberry) Extract, Triethanolamine, Yogurt Powder, Disodium EDTA, Allantoin, Red 33, Red 6, Methylparaben, Phenoxyethanol, Propylparaben, Fragrance

Usual suspects populate the low-level flags list: fatty alcohols, dimethicone, carbomer, triethanolamine (very low on the ingredients list, however, to the point that I don’t foresee a reaction on my part). Red 33 and Red 6 also get 1’s in the irritation column, but they are some of the very last ingredients, so hopefully that won’t be too problematic for most.

Overall Opinion

I like this box a lot! It doesn’t dethrone My Cute Wishlist 2 as my favorite Memebox, but it has a high ratio of usable products with only one item (the cleanser) that will go in the giveaway column. I’m looking forward to trying the various masks as well as the calming cream, and of course I’ve already been putting the lip balms to good use! I love the yogurt balm part of the set enough that I can already see myself repurchasing, even if I think it’s far more a white chocolate flavor than yogurt!

Price-wise, this box cost $23 plus shipping and the products listed total to $96 (with more than half of that coming from the calming cream) – and considering that $11 of that is from the Holika Holika lip balm set, which I was already planning on buying eventually, to me this worked out to be a very good deal.

So, all in all, my Yogurt Cosmetics Memebox review: definitely a satisfying purchase!

Obviously, there are referral links present in this post. Lots of them, haha. Please visit the site disclaimer for more information, and THANK YOU if you choose to buy anything via these links – I love you much!
